Bulgaria is the country that has more animal species within its territory than any other country in Europe. The nature of the country is very rich and diversified. There are 3 major national parks, 11 natural parks, 89 natural reserves and 2234 natural sites. These conditions allow Bulgaria to support a biota that includes 94 species of mammals, more than 400 birds, 36 reptiles, 16 amphibians, an estimated 27,000 insects and other invertebrate species, between 3,550 and 3,750 species of vascular plants.

Having more than 400 bird species Bulgaria is one of the best places for bird watching in Europe. The various and wild habitats give shelter and safe home for numerous endangered species. A rare combination of high mountain ranges, flat plains and a picturesque sea coast, still housing unspoiled and wild nature, can be observed on such a small territory.

Over 300 vertebrates reside in Rila, Pirin and Central Balkan National Parks. Some of the most significant populations of large mammals in Europe live in Bulgaria. These include the Balkan chamois, brown bear, wolf, and red deer. Twenty-five species of smaller mammals also live in Park territory. Bulgaria has 30 bat species (the second largest number in Europe); 60% of these are found within Bulgaria’s three National Parks and all are protected under Bulgarian and international law.

The major advantages of the organized hunting tourism in Bulgaria are the picturesque nature, unique hunting base and excellent big game trophy. Despite its relatively small area, the country has given 4 world records for red deer trophies. Bulgarian is the world records for trophies for wild and for wildcat. More than 16,000 red deer, 4,300 fallow deer, 71,500 roe deer, 45,000 wild boars, 2,200 mouflons, 1,800 wild goats, 2,700 capercailzies, 830 bears, 115,800 pheasants, 313,000 partridges and 36,000 rock partridges exist throughout Bulgarian’s nature. The specialized up-to-date equipment of the forestry, comprising of more than 110 huts and hunting houses, offers over 1100 beds and all facilities and services.
