Conditions for mud generation
The water balance of the salty lake of Shabla is comprised of sea, as well as fresh underground waters from the Sarmatian limestones, whose level here comes out to the surface. Thanks to the underground supply, even in the very waterless years the water surface above the mud holds although with a decreased area, while protecting from oxidation. Conditions for mud generation in the Shabla Tuzla are quite favourable. During millennia the water flora and fauna have favoured the generation of healing mud with unique qualities. The high erosion pliability provides the mire with the necessary quantities of fine- grained clay material. On the other hand, the small size of the lake basin does not allow strong choppiness and the connected with it oxidation of the upper part of the mud layer .

Healing properties:
In comparison with the rest of the mud fields in our coastal lakes, the Lake of Shabla is distinguished by its extremely high qualities and homogeneity. Its deposits, defined with quite high correctness by the isodepths of the mud layer, are amounting to about 200 000 tones.
